Ray Howard

Ray Howard, son of Henry Howard, died Friday night at the hospital at Little Rock, where he had been for some time.

Burial was at Upper Spring Creek Saturday.

Ray is survived by his father, four brothers Woodrow, Jim, Rex and Joe, and four sisters, Helen, Johnnie Sue, Mabel and Waynell.

Long Time Yell County Resident Dies


Samantha J. Howard, age 85, died January 15 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.L. Keathley in Belleville. She was the widow of J.H. Howard, a former sheriff of Yell County. He preceded her in death 36 years.

At the age of one year she moved from Tennessee to Yell County where she spent the remaining years of her life. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church from early childhood.

Funeral services were held at the Danville Methodist church Monday. January 16th at 10:00 with Rev. Tollevson, pastor of the Danville Methodist church and Rev. Russell, Methodist pastor of the Belleville church conducting the service. Those surviving are one daughter, Mrs. R. L. Keathley of Belleville; two sons, J.W. Howard and J.H. Howard of Danville; and one adopted daughter, Mrs. Bessie Waid of Chickalah. Interment at the Danville cemetery.

Shavon Howard

Shavon M. Howard 29, of Atkins, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012, at St. Marys Regional Medical Center in Russellville. She was born January 2, 1983, in Morrilton, the daughter of Allen and Beverly Austin Davis. She was a member of the Atkins Riding Club, Cowgirls for Christ, Arkansas Valley Horse Show Association, National Barrel Horse Association, Barrel Racing for a Cure, and the Yell County Riding Club. She was a 3-time State Keyhole Champion and the 2002 State Junior High Point Champion. She won 5 saddles on 5 different horses and won countless awards in her life. She was an accountant at Kent Dollar CPA.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Stan and Loree Austin, Ruth and Elbert Norman, Melph and Gustava Davis and Ed and Delsa Willcutt.

She is survived by her husband, Jon Howard; parents, Allen and Beverly Davis; grandparents, Gerald and Delsa Davis and Don and Helen Austin, all of Atkins; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.

Funeral services are 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 12, at Lemley Chapel with Rev. Bobby Norman officiating. Burial is in Bells Chapel Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday.

Pallbearers are Scott Watkins, Roy Pitts, Brandon Horn, Brandon Oakley, Ryan Pitts and Paul Buchy.

Former Yell County Child Killed By Car

Terresa Lynn Howard, 7, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Howard of Pine Bluff, was killed instantly February 22 when she was struck by a car in front of her home about 3 1/2 miles west of Pine Bluff.

State Trooper James Beach said the child and a 4-year-old sister stood at the side of the road and watched one car pass. Then the older girl darted into the path of a car driven by O. C. Cannon, 52, of Pine Bluff. She was dragged 130 feet.

Other than her parents she is survived by two sisters, Cynthia Annette and Kelly Jean; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Howard of Nimrod, Mrs. Irene Riley of Plainview and Audie Riley of Ola, and one great-grandfather, G. M. Hunnicutt of Danville.

Funeral Services were held at Nimrod February 25. Mrs. Howard is the former Patsy Riley of Ola.

Claude Reed Howell

Claude Reed Howell, age 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Haven Howell, Little Rock, formerly of Danville, died Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Baptist State Hospital of blood infection.

Beside his parents he is survived by his grandfather, Otho Howell, Dardanelle and grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. McKenzie, Centerville.

MR. WILL HOWELL

Mr. James W. Howell, aged 85 years, died at his home here Monday, November 12th, 1951. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Howell, a pioneer family of Dardanelle. He was a member of the Methodist Church since 1888. He was for many years a merchant and painting contractor. His oldest sister, Mary Howell Cunningham, was the first white child born in Dardanelle.

Mr. Howell was a happy and friendly man and always had a cheery greeting for his fellowman. We all will miss him.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Love Howell, and two sisters, Mrs. Lela Howell Harrower, of Dardanelle, and Mrs. Mattie Hill, of Memphis; one brother, Mr. Mace D. Howell, of Dardanelle; three daughters, Mrs. Tom Bullock and Mrs. Garrett Jones of Dardanelle, and Mrs. Glenn Sly, of Memphis; one son, David Howell, of Okmulgee, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted in the home Tuesday morning by the Rev. Ray McLester, pastor of the Methodist Church. Burial was in Brearley cemetery under direction of tile Cornwell Funeral Home.

John W. Howell

John William Howell, aged 55 of Helena, formerly of Hot Springs, died Saturday. He was assistant police chief at Helena and was a detective lieutenant with the Hot Springs Police Department before going to Helena. Mr. Howell was a native of Plainview, a veteran of World War II and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Howell of Missouri and John Emmett Howell of Little Rock; a brother, Floyd Howell of Hot Springs; and five sisters, Miss Mary L. Howell of Hot Springs, Mrs. O. B. Watson, Mrs. W. R. Stewart of Helena, Mrs. Virgie Wilson of Plainview and Mrs. Glen Rodgers of Camden.

Funeral and burial were Sunday at Helena.

Kenneth Howell

Kenneth Wayne Howell of Blue Ball, Arkansas went to be with the Lord November 6, 2011.

He was born December 7, 1944 in Hampton, Virginia to the late Joseph & Dorothy Howell. He was 66 years, 10 months and 30 days old. Kenneth was a faithful member of Waltreak United Methodist Church and Church Sexton. Kenneth also served in the United States Army. He was a veteran and proudly served in the Vietnam War. As a boy Kenneth loved to fish. He married the sunshine of his life, his wife Rose. Together Kenneth and Rose had four children. Kenneth devoted his days to loving and caring for his family and his grandchildren. He was faithful to ring the church bell with Tristan, his youngest grandchild, every Sunday morning five minutes before church services. He was a friend to all he knew. He was known in the community for putting others' needs before his own.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Rose Howell of the home; four children, Thelma and husband Dane Millard of Waldron, Arkansas, Scott Howell and wife Jenny of Briggsville, Arkansas, Kim and husband Billy Joe Hale of Haletown, Arkansas, and Vicki and husband Patrick Millard of Blue Ball, Arkansas. Papa will be forever missed by twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Kenneth is also survived by two sisters, Betty Good and Rose Hogg both of Hampton, Virginia and three brothers, James Wesley Howell of Martinsville, Virginia, Joel Albert Howell of Danville, Arkansas and Elwood Howell of Hampton, Virginia.

Kenneth was preceded in death by one baby daughter Lori and one brother Johnny Howell of Virginia.

Kenneth's going home service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Waltreak United Methodist Church in Waltreak, Arkansas with Rev. Larry Pat Millard officiating. Interment will follow in the Hunt Cemetery in Blue Ball, Arkansas. Arrangements are being entrusted to Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas.

Kenneth's pallbearers will be his grandsons, Shawn, Dustin, Michael, Ethan, Heath and Tristan.

Pioneer Druggist In Dardanelle Succumbs

Dardanelle - Funeral services were to be conducted today for Mace D. Howell, 85; retired druggist, who died In his home here yesterday. The Rev. C.H. Farmer, pastor of the 1st Methodist Church, will officiate at the services, to be conducted in the Howell residence. Burial will be in Brearley Cemetery under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home.

A native of Dardanelle, Mr. Howell was the son of the late Judge Haynes A. and Martha A. Howell, Yell county pioneers. Mr. Howell's father built one of the first houses in Dardanelle after the Civil War.

Mr. Howell entered the drug business at the age of 18 and retired seven years ago. He recently received an honorary life membership in the Arkansas Pharmaceutical Association. He was a lifetime member of the 1st Methodist Church and served several years as church trustee.

His survivors include a sister, Mrs. Lela Howell Harrower, Dardanelle.

Mrs. Olive Howell

Mrs. Olive Tullen [Pullen] Howell, aged 79, of Ola died Saturday. She was a native of Appleton, widow of Thomas W. Howell and was a member of the Ola Methodist Church. She was a past deputy grand lecturer of the Ola Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Marjory Dixon of Ola and Mrs. Nita Daniels of Bluffton.

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Ola Methodist Church and burial was in the Ola cemetery.
